Office of Women's Policy (OWP) and Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
The Office of Women’s Policy (OWP):
A special department in the Office of the County Executive serving as a bridge between County and community to ensure the voice of women and girls is present in local decision-making. Created in 1998 to identify and address current and emerging issues, OWP promotes special programs and activities to advance women and girls in all aspects of society. OWP serves as a focal point to enhance collaboration to better leverage resources, identify programs and services and influence the legislative process at the local, state and national levels. In collaboration with the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) , the Domestic Violence Council and community organizations, the award-winning work of OWP is diverse, complex, cross-systems, and innovative. OWP leverages the strength of women and girls to create an equitable, green, prosperous and sustainable economy for all.
CSW Mission Statement:
To act in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors to study and investigate conditions which demonstrate discrimination or prejudice because of sex and gender.
